A quality undergraduate program, in Electronics And Communication Engineering, from the nation’s premier institute of Technology, Sri Venkateswara University, has exposed me to the fascinating world of Electronics. A spirit to explore the frontiers of knowledge motivates me to go in for higher studies. I view graduate study as an opportunity to combine theoretical study with research work and thus place my knowledge of Engineering and Sciences in a practical context. I wish to pursue graduate study in Micro Electronics. My predilection for Mathematics and Physical in School has engendered the choice of Electronics and communication Engineering as an undergraduate major. My interest in Micro Electronics has been triggered by my work in Hardware Laboratory, where I developed a keen interest in Integrated Circuits and Computer Hardware. The recent explosion of ideas and exciting trends that are emerging make me feel that Graduate study in this area would be stimulating and challenging.

Right from my school days, I was encouraged to take part in extra curricular activities. For the past 12 years I was my class representative and represented my class in dramatic and quiz events. I have represented my under graduate college in various literary and cultural events winning numerous prizes.

I possess a strong academic preparation to back up my ambition. I have taken the courses in Electrical Circuits And Networks, Electronic Devices And Basic Circuits, Fields Lines And Waves, Signals And systems, Microprocessors And Applications, Analog Circuits, Pulse and Digital Signal Processing, Microwave Techniques, Computer Organization and Electronic Instrumentation And Measurements.

Before I realize my objective of becoming a researcher-cum-teacher, I will need additional study and training in a different environment, graduate study at a reputed University with a large scope for research in my areas of interest would be immensely helpful. I would thus value a research or teaching assistantship very much as this would contribute significantly to the realization of my goal and would give me an opportunity to associate myself with current themes in Research Methodologies. It would also give me a chance to broaden my perspective and contribute to my area of specialization of my doctoral thesis, which of course is my ultimate goal.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

As the one having a bright record throughout the student life. I wanted to opt for technically challenging and fulfilling career. The excitement of setting a goal and solving it by new scientific techniques and innovations with a single-minded devotion has fascinated me ever since and has led me to choose engineering as my fission. And now I feel that I will justice to both myself and to the quality of undergraduate education being offered to me by pursuing graduate studies and delving into further research. I take this opportunity to describe my educational background and career objectives, which have motivated me to pursue research career in Electrical Engineering.

WHY ENGINEERING? From a young age question like why? And how? For the things made me pursue my studies in Science and due to my keen interest and due to my keen interest and motivation I scored a brilliant aggregate of 95% in my class With CBSE Board Examination in Physics, Moths and Chemistry (1), with a special Certificate of Merit in Chemistry from CBSE for standing amongst the top 0.1% students across the whole nation (*2).

My interest in Electronics blossomed in my high school years. It was the time when technology was just starting to make an impact on them lives of the people of India. This prompted me to pursue the field of engineering and opt for Electronics and Communication Engineering as my branch of study. I got admission to Regina Engineering College, Maulana Azad College of Technology, Bhopal, India, which stand amongs the top sixteen institutes of the country after the Indian Institutes of Technology, on the basis of statewide competitive entrance exam, the Pre Engineering Test, which was taken by nearly 60000 students. I was allotted the Electronics and Communication Engineering branch on a highly competitive basis, which was awarded to only 15 students from the entire state of Madhya Pradesh.

MY UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES :- My undergraduate program has given me a strong background in the fundamentals of various Electronics subjects life Digital Electronics, Integrated Electronics, Microprocessors, Microwave Engg. Etc and Communication Engineering topics like Analong Communication, Digital Communication, Information Theory, Coding Theory etc. As an unundergraduate student I have found keen interest in the subjects of Communication Engineering in particular, which has stimulated me to take up further specialized studies in this field.

I have also completed the course of Diploma in Advanced Software Technology from CMC Ltd., A Govt. of India Enterprise, Bhopal, simultaneously, which apart from giving me deep knowledge of software programming and new technologies has further enhanced my analytical skills and understanding of alogorithms.

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING :- Due to my deep inclaination towards Communication Engineering I underwent a six weeks of industrial training at OPTEL TELECOMMUNICATIONS Ltd., Which gave me a great insight to the various aspects of optical fibre communication and design of various communication equipment and devices. I have also completed three weeks as undergraduate trainee in the Department of Telecommunications, Govt. of India, Bhopal. I developed deep understanding of the functioning and maintenance of internet node servers including the concepts of ruting, ISDN,BSDN,WAP etc.

Kproject work & RELEVANT EXPERIENCE :- My interest in Signal Processing has led me to choose Digital Singal Processing as my major elective in the seventh sememester. My project entitled “Compression of various Data Compression Techniques including Wavelet Transform Technique” was my first step towards my area of interest. It compares the various date compression techniques to that of Wavelet Transform technique on the critieria of loss of data and degree of compression by compressing and decompressing various data and image files using their algorithms. During the course of this project I have referred to various technical manuals, journals and specialized boos and texts in additon to my course reference material which had given me profound knowledge on various relevant topics like data compression, data security, wavelet transforms and also genetic algorithm to a fair extent. In line with my deep interest in Communication Engineering, I have written a technical paper entitled “Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication” which has fetched me the Best Paper Award at “INRMAAN 2000”(*3), the technical seminar at Regional Engineering college, Nagpur, Inida and have presented technical papers at other for a too (Please see resume).

MY RESEARCH ARE OF INTEREST :-I have realized that the area of Communication and Signal processing is highly challenging and a budding field which offers a tremendous scope for learning and development. Mere undergraduate knowledge is not sufficient in today’s world of superspecialization. Thus, even though I have been offered a job by Infosys Technologies Ltd., a leading Indian software giant, on the basis of a two level selection process, I have dicided to forgo it forgo it for pusuing graduate studies. With undergraduate course as my base and my relevant knowledge in the field of communicationand Signal Processing, I now desire to pursuer Master of Science in Electrical Engineering Majoring in Communication and Signal Processing. After my Master’s degree I wish to pursue doctoral studies in the same field which would enable me to realize my potential to the maximum.

I feel that your university has a distinguished faculty and excellent infrastructual and research facilites. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE


INTRODUCTION

My interest in Electrical and Electrical dates back the early days of my high school. My career objective is to pursuer research in the field of Electrical Engineering. I am of firm conviction that's suitable opportunity to pursue graduate studies will help in my endeavor towards realizing my goal, paving the path for self-actualization.

PLANS FOR GRADUATE STUDIES

My interest primarily include power system protection and switchgears, High voltage engineering and Programmable logic controllers. In particular the topic protective relaying has evinced teen interest and thoroughly fascinated me. I believe graduate studies would provide me with a better understanding of these topics enabling me to contribute immensely to this arena.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

My school life has a tremendous impact on my personality, right from my kinder grain and my teacher liked me for my good performance and politeness. My innate strength has always been mathematics and physics and I opted for the same in my 10+2 level. My nascent attraction to the field of Electrical & Electronics can be traced that to thee days. During these days I have participated in various group discussions and seminars in the same field. I was placed in the top 1% of approximately 70,000 students who took TCET, a state level entrance exam for Engineering, for which I got admission into RMK Engineering college, one of the most respected and premiere colleges in the state.
The first two years of my engineering studies involved basic of Electrical & Electronics Engineering like Electrical Technology, Transmission and distribution, Electronic devices. I also obtained a firm foundation in Engineering mathematics through rigorous courses in differential equations, lap lace transforms, Foruiertransforms, 3Dgeometry complex variables and numerical analysis.

In my seventh semester, I had done a project title "DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF WATER LEVEL INDICATIOR" with Andhra Prudish State Irrigation and Development Corporation which is very prestitious and respected organization in the country. The project was aided by the Government of Netherlands. In the project we designed a water level indicator which is portable, economical and accurate in measuring the depths of water.

ACTIVITIES BEYOND CURRICULUM
My interest beyond he curriculum included a variety o fields from sports to theatre to adventure and social activities. Once of my favorite fields was theatre where in I regularly participated in all dreams and educational programs for youngsters and illiterates.

I was equally involved in organizing seminars and providing the junior students with valuable assistance in their laboratory activities.

I am an avid lover of nature and also have penchant for adventures. This also lead ad many adventure camps wherein I had the opportunity to mix with students of different regions and had a chance of exchanging our ideas bringing about a blend of new ideas and helping us develop new dimensions of though.

MY TRAITS

I am hardworking, scrupulous and sincere by nature with a strong penchant for learning. I derive satisfaction from dedicated work and filmy believe that dedication, deference and diligence are surest means of reaping the benefits. Born to educated parents, my schooling started at the age of five. I was enrolled into The Hyderabad Public School,a centre reputed for high standards of education and discipline. The well-equipped labs and faculty helped the students gain more in-depth knowledge and hands on experience. The cirriculum emphasized on the overall development of a student.

It was in my eighth year that a new instrument in my household generated a high level of curiosity in me. The TELEPHONE enthralled me. I could speak to my uncle in the United States, which was on the other part of the world. How was it possible? Curiosity motivated me into learning more about how this instrument worked. The TELEVISION and the images relayed by the Metro Department introduced me to Satellites. I was looking for answers and one vague answer; "ITS ALL ELECTRONICS" sealed my choice. I decided to pursue my further education in the field of Electronics & Communications. When I was aged 14, the advent of Computers into India homes exposed me to IC's, VLSI and Software. The fabrication and functions of IC's baffled and fascinated me. Though the technology was beyond my intellectual capabilities, it strengthened and nurtured my penchant for electronics.

I passed out of high school with 86% and chose Moths, Physics and Chemistry to furnish myself with the fundamentals required for my undergraduate course of study. After two years of intermediate education I took the qualifying test and secured a place in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, The Manipal Institute of Technology. The college is affiliated to The Mangalore University and is considered to be one of the most prestigious, private institutions in India. The initial course provided answers to my basic questions and a brief insight of electronics. I was flabbergasted by the magic woven by two fantastic digits, the Zero and the One. In the first six semesters, apart from the fundamentals in subjects such as Communication Systems, Microprocessor and their programming, Digital Electronics, Control Systems and Networks, I also acquired the faculty essential for higher studies and research. Communication systems and Networks were incontrovertibly the most interesting of the lot. I am also trained in the use of packages like Circuit Maker, Pspice and Matlab.

To gain practical knowledge and a feel of the industry environment, I underwent practical training for a period of 6 weeks in the ELECTRONICS CORPORATION OF INDIA LTD. (a Govt of India enterprise). I worked in the various technical department of the firm dealing with varied electronic applications. For a period of three weeks, I was placed in the ATC division that is involved in the design, operation and maintenance of apparatus used in AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL. Optical fibre technology and Data communication were my electives in the last two semesters of the course. These subjects helped me probe deeper into the field of high-speed communication and Data Processing. The Internet inculcated in me enthusiasm and an enhanced interest in the concepts of Networking, Data processing, Data Security and a flair for graphics and web designing.

The very slow speed and minimal download rate at home and college made me think of how to enhance speed using the existing resources. My major project was the development of an ADSL (Asynchronous Digital Subscribers Line) Modem. I was involved in the planning, design, assembly and programming aspects of the project. My team and me demonstrated a speed of 236kbps as against the 56.6 kbps conventional modem. This project was successful and acclaimed by our professors. In my final semester, I was a Teaching Assistant in the Communication lab. To Complement my formal education, I learnt computer programming using languages such as C, C++, and JAVA. I have always been in the top 10% in my class through out my educational career and I will strive to keep up my academic record.

I was a part of the IEEE Student Branch of my college. The branch provided me many opportunities to attend technical workshops and seminars conducted by eminent personalities. I contributed to the organization of a Technical Festival and workshops for juniors. These workshops helped me gain some teaching experience. I presented a paper on ADSL Modems at a Technical Meet held in The Regional engineering college, Scrotal, India. I was a member of the Tennis team, Photography club, the LEO club and the Quiz Circle of my college.

As constant improvisation and development of innovative Technologies lead to the erosion of the older versions, I like to be in tandem with the latest technology. I want to learn, satiate my never-ending curiosity in electronics and make the optimum use of Technology. This calls for a higher level of knowledge, expertise and capacity to research extensively. I want to enroll in to a Master's Program (MS) that will, to a great extent accoutre and assist me in realizing my goal. I would like to research, specialize in the field of Communication Systems and Networking for which I have an inherent proclivity and contribute significantly to the field of my interest.

After reading through the graduate program literature and the department website, I am convinced the faculty and the facilities in your university are excellent and the environment is highly conducive for education and research. Thus, I strongly desire to continue my further education and research at your university.
